On Thursday afternoon President Margaret and VP Jean Noble visited Christine Brown at home, to present her with a Certificate to recognise the award of Honorary Membership made at the Club’s 2025 Annual Dinner.
Christine, now 91, has been a great supporter of Penicuik Curling Club over more years than she cares to remember, and the award was very well deserved.
She was absolutely delighted with her Certificate, and the occasion was rounded off with coffee and cakes and lots of reminiscences of past highlights and old friends. A great afternoon.

🌞 Penicuik CC Summer Croquet Event 2026 – Social Report
The sun shone brightly over Penicuik on Sunday 19th July 2026, setting the perfect scene for our annual Summer Croquet Event. What followed was an afternoon filled with friendly competition, enthusiastic lawn‑side support, and the kind of banter that only curling players can produce.
Juice flowed freely, strawberries were enjoyed in great quantities, and the sidelines were buzzing with laughter as spectators cheered on the players — sometimes helpfully, sometimes… creatively.
🏆 Competition Highlights
After a closely fought afternoon, the final came down to a nail‑biting play‑off. Huge congratulations to Jim Ramsay & Sheena Dawe who emerged victorious after a tense showdown with Reg Dunbar & Linda McKay.
Trophies — generously sponsored by Garry’s Gardening — were presented to the winners, along with a celebratory bottle of wine to mark their triumph.

A hearty round of applause goes to Pam Ramsay and Dawn, who battled valiantly throughout the day. Their efforts were recognised with personalised wooden spoons and a selection of soocky sweeties — awarded in the true spirit of fun and good humour.

Final Thanks
A huge thank‑you to everyone who attended, played, supported, organised, or simply brought good cheer. You made this a truly memorable afternoon for Penicuik CC.
Our season will begin on Friday 2nd of October and run through to the Closing Bonspiel on March 27th. The Opening Bonspiel is to be held on Sunday 4th of October.
Your Curling Sub-committee have drawn the following teams for the Kettle, Thirds and Hurley competitions.
One change to the list below. Geoff Dawe will now play as Third in the Kirsty McWlliam HURLEY rink in place of Alex Moir.
Our Closing Bonspiel played on Saturday 28th March was a fitting finale to an excellent season of curling. Sadly, we were missing Roger and Iain Scott following their recent bereavement and our thoughts were with them and their family as we took to the ice.
It was great to see 8 rinks battle over 7 ends to determine the outcome of the day, which was observed by Jean Lennie, sponsor of this event over many years, for which we are very grateful. Jean, a Penicuik CC curler of old, witnessed some “great shots” from some but also some “pretty rubbish shots”
.It was good to see our two newest recruits, Colin McClung and Chuck Heckman, taking part and from what was seen and heard they made a telling contribution to their respective rinks, one in the winning rink with the other in the runners-up rink.
The games were played in the usual good spirits over seven ends, managing to start the seventh just before the end of session bell rang.
We retired to the club room for well earned refreshments with soup and sandwiches on offer.
The scores were scrutinised and following a wee ‘faux pas’ by the Social Committee convenor to great hilarity, the booby prizes were presented by Jean Lennie to the correct rink of David Gillespie, Ian Robertson, Debbie Belcher and Lesley Broadwood with a score of -6 shots.
There was no dispute about the winning rink, with a score of +11 shots, skipped by Jim Ramsay with Jean Noble, Colin McClung and Louise Clapperton, who received their prizes from sponsor, Jean.
Following that presentation, President Margaret proceeded to make another presentation, this time to Jean Lennie who received a 50 Year medal to commemorate 50 years as a member of Penicuik Curling Club.
Jean was then presented with a certificate of Honorary Membership of Penicuik Curling Club in recognition of all she has done for the Club and beyond, including her involvement with Wheelchair Curlers over several years.
Our AGM was held within Glencorse Golf Club on the 14th of May, 26. At the meeting President Margaret Carr presented Linda McKay with a certificate confirming her position as an Honorary member of Penicuik Curling Club. Dave Anderson had nominated Linda on behalf of the committee. He reminded those present that Linda who joined in 1988 and her late husband Ian have always been great supporters of the club. Linda sponsors our Kettle League competition.
After confirming her many years of enjoyable and friendly memories of club events, Linda thanked Margaret and the Club for the honour and looks forward to continuing her association with Penicuik.
Dave Anderson, Dave Carr and I attended a dinner the annual Oxenfoord Curling Club Dinner on Friday 8th May 2026. Members from Penicuik have attended the dinner as guests of Secretary Robert Stewart for many years. This occasion was very special as it was to celebrate 150 years of Curling at Oxenfoord. The dinner, held at The Stair Arms Hotel provided the assembled company with a very entertaining evening with excellent speakers. To mark the occasion, Dave Anderson presented an inscripted salver on behalf of Penicuik. We hope that the salver might be used as a trophy for an annual fixture between the two clubs.

On a sunny Sunday, Penicuik met Merchiston for the annual Merchiston Team Points. Inadvertently, Penicuik tried to take an early un-fair advantage by fielding 9 players(!) – i am sure there will be a debriefing with the Curling Sub-Committee to understand why 😉 With play underway (with the correct number of players!) Penicuik started strongly in Striking & Inwicking, edging the opening skirmishes to set the tone, 37-25. Merchiston hit back impressively in Drawing, taking that skill by 20–11, but across the card Penicuik proved the more consistent side.As holders Penicuik continued to show dominance in Guarding, Chap n’ Lie, & Raising, whilst both team produced confident scores in Chipping the Winner. Merchiston fought back registering narrow wins in Inwicking and Wick & Curl In, but were unable to close the overall gap.With points accumulated across all ten disciplines, Penicuik’s greater depth told in the final totals, their 139 points comfortably seeing off Merchiston’s 111. The result means Penicuik retain the Team Points trophy, rounding off an entertaining and competitive inter‑club fixture played in excellent spirit. After play the teams retired to the bar area, where drinks were shared and the afternoon’s play was warmly discussed in the best traditions of inter‑club curling. In the presentation, Iain Scott gladly accepted the trophy on behalf of Penicuik, from Merchiston’s Mike Harrington, bringing an enjoyable fixture to a very sociable close.
